We offer workshops specifically tailored to each organization’s target-audience. Bodies in Flight’s core team have extensive experience of delivering workshops across all age ranges from early-years to postgraduate/ emerging-artist level. Recent talks and workshops have happened in schools, Choreographic Lab, Dance4, Inbetween Time Symposium, Central School of Speech & Drama and Goldsmiths College (London). We believe these workshops provide participants with not only insights into our working method and artistic concerns, but also useful transferable approaches and skills that can then be applied to their own performance-making. The workshops also allow participants to explore their own particular take on the work’s broad topics – the presentation of self in contemporary culture.|
Led by two company-members, each workshop is structured around a duet of skills, mirroring our collaborative process: for instance, music—text, choreography—photography, photography—text. They can be half-day or full day. Depending on the duet, the full-day version begins with an extended physical warm-up, then a writing or photographic exercise, generating material that the participants will later combine with either musical or movement material. The afternoon session begins with a musical or movement exercise, in which the participants develop both improvisational and notation awareness and skills. The workshop concludes with a combination task producing a short piece of performance. At each stage in the day, participants are asked to reflect critically on their own work and feed those observations back into the working-process and group discussion.
